Nightblood from Warbreaker and other Brandon Sanderson stories for Brooke! This is a sentient blade tasked with "destroying evil" but unfortunately, being a sword, has no real concept of what evil really is, so defaults on destroying whatever its blade touches (while also killing the wielder if left unsheathed for too long). The magic system in Warbreaker is represented through color (aka Breath), and Nightblood is described as a pitch black blade that absorbs all color from the wielder, leaving them grey and lifeless. Brooke and I had a lovely day chatting about all things nerdy while we forged this color-eating blade on their leg. I hadn't read any Sanderson stuff before Brooke recommended Warbreaker and I really enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to delving into Stormlight Chronicles next.
