Work in progress. Here’s an update on how Brian’s Book of Kells tattoo is going. This was all done in one session yesterday.

I’ve included the folio page 34, “Matthew” from the Book of Kells, and also a close up of the section we used for the design. The section is also flipped! After over 1200+ years the velum is quite faded and damaged, but you can see why they call “the work of angels”.

CelticCeltic KnotworkChest and shoulder

Description

The tattoo features intricate interwoven patterns characteristic of Celtic art, including knotwork and spirals. The design is symmetrical and flows across the chest, incorporating various loops and curves that create a sense of movement. Some sections appear to contain animal motifs subtly integrated into the knotwork.

Technical Details

Line Work: The line work is bold and precise, with varying thicknesses that enhance the depth of the design.

Shading: There is minimal shading, focusing primarily on the outlines and the intricacy of the patterns.

Color Usage: The tattoo is predominantly black, emphasizing the contrast and detail of the design.
