About

Hi, I’m scott. I’ve been tattooing since 1990 and have owned Mercury Tattoo Studio since 2000. I’ll make this bio more interesting as soon as I am.

Portfolio

Drew this one up to have available at the @skindustrytattooexpo this weekend. Today was spent visiting with a ton of great old friends.

I recently got to start on a sleeve dedicated to The Doan Outlaws of Pennsylvania. There is a long way to go as this was our first of many sittings. The artwork is based on the artwork I created for the exhibit focusing on the Doans at the Mercer Museum here in Doylestown. For information on the exhibit and the Doans themselves, here’s a link to the site focused on the exhibit.

It’s also important to note that the fellow getting the tattoo is also the same person that pushed to get me involved in the museum project in the first place. @bootstrap_paradox_80 Clint’s passion and dedication to history and its complicated twists and turns is infectious.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Shotsie Gorman. When he first joined us at Mercury Tattoo, it was impossible not to feel a sense of awe - this was Shotsie Gorman, a name that carried historic weight in the tattoo world. His impact on the craft was undeniable, and the stories he shared made it clear just how much he had seen and shaped over the years. With a little time, that initial admiration grew into a deeper respect. He wasn’t just a legend - he was a part of our world, someone we respected not just for his work, but for the person he was.

Shotsie wasn’t just part of tattooing - he was one of the forces that shaped it. He spent over 45 years pushing the craft forward, always challenging what tattooing could be and elevating it into an art form. From the underground days of New York to international recognition, he was a pioneer, a mentor, a poet and storyteller, and a true original. His work, his voice, and his influence were a tide that raised all of tattooing’s ships.

In the short few years we had to get to know him, Shotsie had more energy, talent, and dedication than artists half his age could hope for. He never stopped creating, never stopped learning, never stopped pushing. He was always bettering himself and, by extension, teaching and motivating everyone around him.

We were extremely lucky to have him as a force in our industry and as a friend in our shop.

Our hearts go out to his wife, Kristine, his son, Cole, and to all who knew and loved him. His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy - his art, his influence, and his stories - will live on.

Rest easy, Shotsie. You changed tattooing, and you changed us. Thank you.

With love from Mercury Tattoo - Scott, Frank, and the Mercury Tattoo family

I haven’t been particularly active online, but I’ve definitely been keeping busy these past few months. It’s about time I start trying to update my portfolio in general.

A good place to start is with Christina’s ongoing sleeve. The first shot is of the finished piece based on a painting she had commissioned during the initial covid shutdown. The second photo is the start of finishing her lower arm. We will be filling it with imaginary creatures she likes. It will continue with the same limited color approach. The new section is far from done, but a fun start for sure!

I finished this one last year. It is a tribute to the polish part of his heritage. It is a Hussar, which were the absolute badass Polish Heavy Cavalry dominant through the 1500’s-1700’s. They had ornate metal armor and wore giant wings into battle. Look them up, there is way more to them than fancy armor and wings… but man they looked cool.
If you happen to see this, thank you Mr. Jankowski!

We are well on our way with Mike’s Samurai vs Oni sleeve. This fella has trusted me with some of the coolest ideas over the years, and they just keep getting cooler.

Here’s some progress on one that has been a whole lot of fun. Beyond being one of my favorite people, @kmoonlovea has really cool ideas for tattoos! Thanks Amy!
