The “Pharaoh’s Horses” tattoo is a classic, steeped in rich history and symbolism. This design features three galloping horses, and while the imagery often represents freedom, power, and a deep connection with nature. The roots of this motif go back to a famous 19th-century engraving titled Pharaoh’s Horses by J.F. Herring Sr. The original artwork depicts three majestic horses’ heads emerging from the water, representing the biblical story of Pharaoh’s chariots being swept away by the Red Sea. Over time, this image was adopted by tattoo artists as a symbol of survival, resilience, and triumph over adversity. The power and motion of the horses symbolize unstoppable force and determination. In my version, tattooed on my good friend Arnaud and talented tattoo artist’s stomach, I wanted to emphasize the energy and fluidity of this timeless design while adding my personal touch. It’s probably one of my favorite classic tattoos, and it always feels like paying homage to a piece of tattoo history, bringing the strength and symbolism of the Pharaoh’s Horses to life on a living canvas. It’s always an honor when someone travels halfway across the world for a tattoo, and Kelly’s visit from the USA to Colmar was truly special. She chose this design featuring Cherokee roses, a flower rich in history and meaning, paired with a vase inspired by Native American pottery. Cherokee roses, often associated with resilience and remembrance, have deep ties to Native American culture, symbolizing strength and unity. The vase itself draws from traditional Native American pottery styles, known for their geometric patterns and earthy tones. These pieces of art are crafted with natural materials, often clay, and hold a connection to the land and the stories of the people who created them. Throwback to @trueblue_tattooconvention , one of the best conventions of the year! I had the privilege of tattooing this powerful Rock of Ages piece on the incredibly strong Josie who handled the pain like a champion. The tattoo sits on the back of her thigh and brings this timeless design to life. The Rock of Ages is a classic symbol, originally inspired by 18th-century hymn imagery. Traditionally, it shows a woman clinging to a rock, protected against the crashing waves. A representation of resilience, faith, and finding strength in challenging times.
