How did The Black Lotus Tattoo Gallery begin?

In 2009, I was working alongside two friends of mine for a shop owner who was not a Tattoo Artist. He did not take care of the Shop and we ended up having to make some tough choices.

My two friends, Adam☠️ Bullington, Jonathan Guzik, and I decided that something needed to change.

We had a couple of ideas, I had some savings, and we were willing to work and support each other.

We had two choices:
#1. See if the owner would sell me the shop.
#2. Open a shop from the ground up.

A meeting was set with the current Shop owner and, after some negotiation, I bought the shop we were already working in.

A plan was set to take everything negative about that shop and throw it away. We wanted a clean slate. A new beginning.

I chose the name Black Lotus Tattoo Gallery because of my love of Japanese tattoo work and of magic the gathering. The rarest magic the gathering card found is the Black Lotus.

We started in a 900 ft. unit. Within three years, we were able to grow into the 2200 square-foot space we’re in now and the rest is history.

In Japanese artwork, the lotus blooms in mud.
It can withstand tough conditions more than anything else and still bloom beautifully.

Even though we started out stuck in the mud, we found a way to bloom anyway 🪷
